Terms of Service
Effective date: October 16, 2026
These Terms of Service (the Terms) are an agreement between you and tTerm (tTerm, we or us). They apply when you use the tterm.net website, the app.tterm.net web app and the programs that come with them (the Service).
You accept the Terms when you tick the box at sign-up. If you do not agree with them, do not sign up or use the Service. How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy (the Policy).
Definitions
- Account: your account in the Service, tied to your email address.
- Machine: a server or computer you have connected to the Service.
- Agent: the tterm-agent program you install on your computer to connect it to the Service.
- Terminal: a shell session on a Machine, opened through the Service.
- Project: a group of Machines in an Account. The first Project, Personal, is created when you sign up.
- Your data: what you enter into the Service and get from it: commands, their output, information about your Machines.
- Plan: a set of features and limits of the Service (how many Machines and Terminals, how long output is kept) and its price, if the Plan is paid.
- Subscription: payment for a paid Plan for a period, renewed automatically until you cancel it.
1. Who can use the Service
1.1 Age. You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into contracts.
1.2 On behalf of a company. If you accept the Terms on behalf of a company, they bind the company too, and you confirm that you have the authority to do so.
1.3 Sanctions. You may not use the Service if you are subject to US sanctions or if US export control laws prohibit it.
2. Account and sign-in
2.1 Sign-up. When you sign up, you give a working email address and your real name. One Account is for one person.
2.2 Sign-in. You sign in with a one-time code sent by email. On your own device you can set a 4-digit quick code: it works only in that browser.
2.3 Security. Keep your email and devices safe, never share codes, and sign out of the Service on computers that are not yours. You are responsible for everything that happens in your Account.
2.4 Unauthorized access. If someone else has gained access to your Account, click Sign out everywhere in Devices right away and write to support@tterm.net. We will check that the Account is yours and help you regain access.
3. How the Service works
3.1 Servers. To connect a server, you run a command from the
Service on it. The installer creates a tterm user with no password
and passwordless sudo, and adds the Service's certificate authority
(CA) to its authorized_keys. The Service signs in to the server over
SSH with a certificate that is valid for 2 minutes and contains your name; every
sign-in is visible in the server's log (auth.log). The installer
does not change the server's SSH settings.
3.2 Computers. To connect a computer, you install the Agent in
the ~/.tterm-web folder. The Agent starts when you log in to the
computer and runs as your user, without root rights. It keeps the connection
to the Service itself and starts a shell when you open a Terminal.
3.3 Terminals. A Terminal runs on the Service's server, not in your browser: closing the tab does not stop it. Each command is saved as a block: its text, directory, time, exit code and output. What is kept and for how long is described in the Policy.
3.4 Access to Machines. By connecting a Machine, you give the
Service the access described above. You can remove it yourself: with the Remove
machine button and the command the Service shows you for a server, or with
~/.tterm-web/uninstall.sh on a computer.
3.5 Plan. Features and limits depend on your Plan (section 6).
4. Your data
4.1 Your data is yours. You allow us to store, process and show it to you only to make the Service work, as described in the Policy.
4.2 What we don't do. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising or train AI models on it.
4.3 Rights to data. You are responsible for what you enter into and keep in the Service, and for having the right to do so.
4.4 Feedback. We may freely use the feedback and suggestions you send us to improve tTerm, without paying for them.
5. Acceptable use
5.1 Prohibited. When using the Service, you may not:
- break the law, including by storing or transmitting illegal material through the Service;
- attack other systems: scan them, guess passwords, overload them, spread malware or send spam;
- connect Machines you are not authorized to manage;
- try to access other people's Accounts, Machines or data, or closed parts of the Service;
- disrupt the Service or load it so heavily that it gets in others' way;
- collect other users' data;
- get around Plan limits and technical restrictions, including with several Accounts, or create Accounts automatically;
- impersonate anyone, including tTerm;
- resell access to the Service without our written consent.
5.2 Vulnerabilities. Found a vulnerability? Write to security@tterm.net. We do not treat good-faith research reported this way as a violation.
6. Plans and payment
6.1 Free Plan. The Service currently has a free Plan: up to 50 Machines and up to 24 open Terminals, with command output kept for 30 days. The limits are shown in the Service.
6.2 Paid Plans. Paid Plans will come later. Before you pay, you see the price, the currency, what the Plan includes and its term.
6.3 Subscription. A paid Plan is paid for by a monthly or yearly Subscription, as you choose. At the end of each period it renews automatically on the same terms, and the payment is charged automatically. By paying for a Subscription, you agree to these charges.
6.4 Cancellation. You can cancel a Subscription at any time in the Service or by writing to support@tterm.net. The paid period runs to its end; after that the paid features are switched off.
6.5 Payment and taxes. Payments are handled by a payment provider that we will name before sales begin; its terms are on its website. Taxes such as sales tax or VAT are added at checkout based on where you are.
6.6 14 days to withdraw. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you can withdraw from a new Subscription within 14 days and get your money back. If you asked us to start right away, you pay only for the days you used.
6.7 Price changes. We will email you about a new price for an existing Subscription 30 days in advance. If it does not suit you, cancel the Subscription before it takes effect.
6.8 Free Plan limits. We may change them; we will warn you in advance before reducing them.
6.9 Refunds. Except in the cases in sections 6.6, 12.4 and 13.3, payments for a period that has started are not refunded, including when an Account is closed for breaking the Terms, unless the law requires otherwise.
7. Open source and tTerm's rights
7.1 Open source. tTerm's code is open source under the GNU AGPL v3. The Terms do not limit your rights under that license: for example, you may run tTerm on your own server under its terms.
7.2 Name and logo. The tTerm name, the logo, the tterm.net website and its texts belong to us. You may use them only with our written permission, except as the law allows.
8. Your responsibility
8.1 Commands. You run the commands in Terminals, and you are responsible for their consequences, including to the owners of the Machines. This includes commands taken from the Service's suggestions. The confirmation before a dangerous command in the input line helps but guarantees nothing: it does not exist in classic mode or inside programs such as vim.
8.2 Backups. You make backups of the data on your Machines yourself.
8.3 Indemnity. If claims are made against us because of your actions in the Service or your breach of the Terms, for example an attack from your Machine, you will compensate us for the resulting losses and costs, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
9.1 The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". You use it at your own risk.
9.2 We give no warranties, express or implied: that the Service will suit your purposes, that it will work without interruptions, errors or failures, that it is secure, or that errors will be fixed within any time. This does not affect warranties that the law does not allow us to exclude.
9.3 Beta. We may offer new features to try early, marked beta. They may work less well, change or disappear.
10. Limitation of liability
10.1 We are not liable for:
- the consequences of commands you have run;
- your Machines, devices, programs and the data on them;
- indirect losses, lost profits and lost data;
- interruptions of the Service;
- the actions and failures of providers: hosting, email, network, payment provider;
- use of your email, devices or codes by others.
10.2 If we are nevertheless found liable, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
10.3 What the law does not allow us to limit. The limitations in this section apply to the extent permitted by applicable law. The law does not allow liability to be excluded or limited for intent, gross negligence, fraud, or death and personal injury, and consumers keep the rights their own country's law gives them.
10.4 Force majeure. We are not liable for delays and failures caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control: natural disasters, fires, wars, government actions, power and internet outages, large-scale attacks.
11. Suspension and closing your Account
11.1 Suspension. We may suspend or close an Account if you have broken the Terms or the law, given false information, or if your actions threaten the Service or other people. Where possible, we will first write to you and explain why.
11.2 Your explanation. You can reply to support@tterm.net and explain. If after review there are no grounds, we lift the suspension within 2 business days.
11.3 Deleting your Account. You can stop using the Service and delete your Account at any time: for now by writing to support@tterm.net, later with a button in the Service. We delete the Account and its data within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep longer.
11.4 Access on your Machines. Before deleting your Account, remove the Service's access from your Machines (section 3.4): it stays on a Machine until you remove it.
11.5 What survives. Sections 7–10, 14 and 15 continue to apply after your Account is closed.
12. Support and availability
12.1 Support. We help at support@tterm.net. We decide the scope of support and response times.
12.2 Providers. The Service runs on providers' infrastructure: hosting, email, network (listed in the Policy). We work to keep the Service running without interruptions but do not guarantee uptime or how fast failures are fixed.
12.3 Interruptions. There may be planned maintenance (we warn at least 1 day ahead) and short interruptions during updates: open Terminals end, and Agents reconnect by themselves. A computer that is asleep, off or offline is unavailable through no fault of ours.
12.4 Closing the Service. If we decide to shut down the Service, we will give 60 days' notice and time to take your data and remove access from your Machines, and refund the paid, unused period.
13. Changes to the Service and the Terms
13.1 The Service changes. We develop the Service: features appear, change and sometimes go away. We announce noticeable changes in advance.
13.2 New Terms. We may change the Terms. We will email you about material changes at least 30 days before they take effect. The new version is published on the website with its date.
13.3 If you disagree. If the changes do not suit you, you can delete your Account before they take effect, and we will refund the paid, unused period. By continuing to use the Service after the new version takes effect, you accept it.
14. Governing law and disputes
14.1 Write to us first. If you have a claim, write to support@tterm.net first. We will reply within 30 days and try to resolve it without going to court.
14.2 Law and courts. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes are decided by the courts of the State of Delaware.
14.3 Consumers. If you are a consumer living in the EU, the UK or another country whose law provides for it, you keep the rights your country's laws give you and may bring a claim in the courts where you live.
15. General
15.1 Notices. We write to the email address of your Account, and may announce things that concern everyone in the Service or on the website. Keep your address current. Write to us at support@tterm.net.
15.2 Entire agreement. The Terms and the Policy are everything we have agreed about the Service.
15.3 Severability. If any provision is held invalid, the rest remain in effect.
15.4 No waiver. If we do not exercise a right under the Terms right away, it does not mean we have waived it.
15.5 Assignment. You may not transfer your rights and obligations under the Terms to anyone else without our consent. We may transfer them to a company that takes over the Service, for example in a sale or reorganization, and will let you know.
15.6 Current version. The current version of the Terms is always at tterm.net/terms.
