The agent now runs your shell: bash or zsh

It used to start bash no matter what. On macOS, where zsh has been the default since 2019, that meant somebody else's environment: half of what you had installed could not be found.

Now it is the shell you use yourself, with your paths and your settings, the same as opening Terminal.

What else changed

  • A command that leaves nothing to fix asks first – rm -rf, mkfs, DROP DATABASE, stopping sshd
  • The server's host key is recorded when you connect it and checked every time after, so nothing else answering on that address gets in
  • Long output arrives with a summary instead of its last six lines – for apt you now see how many packages were upgraded, not just Processing triggers
  • Long paths in the prompt are shortened: /opt/…/tterm/core
